Osteopathy

Osteopathy is a hands-on manual therapy used to alleviate pain and restore normal function to joints, muscles and tissues. This is achieved through a combination of joint articulation, stretching, soft tissue techniques and joint manipulation. Specific exercise and lifestyle recommendations can also be prescribed in order to speed the recovery process.

Osteopathy works by

  • Assessment of the individual through careful examination of health history, posture, movement and by using "palpitory awareness”, an osteopath’s ability to assess the health and vitality of soft tissues and joints through touch.

  • Tailored and individualized treatments and advice based on the unique needs of the patient.

  • Treating the underlying cause of the symptoms being experienced rather than the symptoms alone.

 Osteopathy takes a holistic view on treating patients. A detailed case history is taken in order to find out as much as possible about an individual’s presenting symptoms and then a series of diagnostic orthopaedic assessments are carried out in order to locate a potential dysfunction. Osteopathic treatment is safe and gentle and combines a detailed knowledge of anatomy and physiology with considered clinical testing to find areas that may be causing problems.

It must also take into consideration an individuals goals, health status, occupation, training age, injury history, stress levels, medication use, flexibility, availability and more.
